privacy policy
last updated: august 25, 2026
the short version
- you talk to Kachi privately. your friends never see your conversation.
- to do its job, it shares small, relevant things with the people in your circle. that is the product, and by using it you agree to that sharing.
- you can always ask it what it knows about you, correct it, or have everything deleted.
- we don't sell your data and we don't show ads.
- your conversations help make the agent better, including training our own models.
who we are
Kachi is operated by Layers Labs Inc, a United States company ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. Questions go to hq@tastelayers.com.
what we collect
- Your conversations with the agent. Everything you tell it, including things that may be personal or sensitive. This is the heart of the service and we treat it that way.
- Your phone number, which is how your account works. There is no password and no email login.
- What you tell it about your friends, such as names, birthdays, and what's going on in their lives.
- Invite and referral data, such as who invited whom and basic campaign parameters on invite links.
- Basic technical logs, such as message delivery status and timestamps, used to run the service reliably.
Our website sets no cookies and runs no third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
how we use it
- To build and keep current the agent's understanding of you, so it can do what you ask well.
- To work on the goals you give it: making plans, asking your friends things, reminding you.
- To decide what, if anything, should be shared with the people in your circle (see the next section).
- To improve the service, including training and improving our own models on conversations and outcomes. We do not sell your data to third parties or use it for advertising.
sharing between you and your friends
This is the part that makes Kachi different, so read it. The service exists to work across your circle. When you give the agent a goal, it talks to the friends involved, and it passes along what is needed to move that goal forward. When a friend gives it a goal that involves you, the same happens in the other direction.
- By signing up and connecting with friends, you consent to this sharing. It is not an optional feature; it is the product.
- The agent shares what serves the plan or the relationship, guided by what you would be glad to have shared. It does not hand your conversation to anyone. Your friends never see what you wrote; they see what the agent chooses to say.
- You can set boundaries in conversation ("never share health stuff", "don't mention this to Theo") and the agent will respect them.
- You can ask the agent at any time what it knows about you and what it has shared, and it will answer.
who the agent texts
The agent only sends messages to people who have started a conversation with it themselves, by texting it or by accepting an invite and sending the connection message. It does not text people who have not done that, and it does not text your contacts. You can stop all messages at any time by replying STOP.
friends who haven't joined yet
You may mention people who don't use Kachi. We store what you tell us about them in order to serve your relationships, and if they later join, the agent may already know a little about them from your side. Anyone can email us to ask what we hold about them or to have it removed, whether they use the service or not.
who works for us behind the scenes
We use service providers to run Kachi: messaging infrastructure to send and receive texts, AI model providers to power the agent's reasoning, and cloud hosting for our systems. They process data only to provide their service to us and are bound by their own confidentiality obligations. We may also disclose data if the law requires it, or as part of a company sale or merger, in which case this policy follows the data.
your rights
- Ask: text the agent "what do you know about me?" and it answers.
- Correct: tell it when it has something wrong, and it updates.
- Delete: text it that you want your data deleted, or email us. We delete your account data within 30 days, keeping only what the law requires us to keep.
- Stop messages: reply STOP at any time and the agent stops texting you.
- If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law (such as California), you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete your data, and to know what we collect. Email us and we will honor them. We do not sell personal data, so there is nothing to opt out of selling.
retention and security
We keep your data while your account is active, and delete or anonymize it when it is no longer needed. Data is encrypted in transit and access is restricted to what running the service requires. No system is perfectly secure, and we will notify you as required by law if a breach affects you.
where data is processed
Kachi is operated from the United States and your data is processed there. The service is intended for people in the United States; if you use it from somewhere else, you do so on your own initiative and your data will still be processed in the US under US law.
age
Kachi is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger; if we learn we have, we delete it.
changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, the agent will tell you before the change takes effect. The current version always lives at this page.
